Amtrak is ushering in a new era of rail travel with substantial infrastructure upgrades along the Northeast Corridor (NEC), aimed at enhancing reliability, safety, and efficiency. This summer, Amtrak is channeling $260 million into track infrastructure improvements, a significant boost from last year’s efforts, reflecting a 109% increase in investment. These enhancements are a critical part of Amtrak’s broader strategy to elevate service quality and are instrumental in achieving the company’s ambitious objective of doubling its annual ridership to 66 million passengers by 2040.

Earlier this year, Amtrak completed a significant project replacing four power transmission circuits at the Kearny Substation 41 in New Jersey, a critical substation that supplies power to both Amtrak and NJ TRANSIT trains. This upgrade, carried out in collaboration with partners like Conrail, PATH, and NJ TRANSIT, ensures improved reliability of the power system along this busy section of the NEC.
Additionally, Amtrak and NJ TRANSIT are intensifying their joint efforts to inspect, maintain, and upgrade various infrastructure, catenary, and fleet systems, further enhancing the overall travel experience for passengers.
