This historical location is sad yet historical. Take a walking tour to learn about the history of the site and more recently the massacre that occurred there. The way the convicts were treated broke ground on treatment and new methods of imprisonment. About 1.5 hours from Hobart on fully tar roads the drive is well worth the effort. The site has plenty of free parking and entry fees apply, which includes the walking tour and 25 minute bay cruise. This is a must see.

Had a fantastic day out with our driver Mark. His knowledge, his personality helped make the trip a very interesting one and certainly kept us all awake. Could not fault the day and well worth the cost

Great day although not really long enough at Port Arthur, felt a bit rushed as there is so much to see. Peninsula stops were fantastic

Our tour guide Paul was really knowledgeable and shared a lot of local information. My only disappointment was that we got to Richmond at roughly 8.45, and none of the shops were open.

Would recommend this trip. The group is small and the tour guide Connor was excellent very knowledgable and also speaks well and has a great sense of humour. The walk along the Tasman was fab and easy enough but those that didnt want to wasnt a problem. Port Arthur was amazing and also have the option prior to that to visit the unzoo and see the Tasmanian Devils for 10 dollars extra. I woyld recommend this too. Really good tour and would definitely use the tour company again.

i've done alot of tours in my time, but this one beats them all, our leader Mark, was so knowledable, funny and had us on our toes. he really did his homework, and made the day enjoyable, and so much fun. i haven't laughed so much in a long time. would definately go again and use this company and make sure we get mark back again. thanks for a memorable day out

The tour to Port Arthur started at 7.50. we were picked from near the Hotel Ibis.Richmond village was quaint, peaceful and delightful There was a 1823 bridge made by convicts in Richmond village . Port Arthu is a World heritage site now. A guided tour around showed us the conditions in which the convicts lived. It was indeed a trip into history. The Tasman arch and Devils kitchen site later were also picturesque. Phil driver of Grayline kept us occupied throughout and suggested an excellent lunch of pumpkin soup and fish!

My wife and I visited Port Arthur from Richmond. It's a fascinating historical site of a former prison/convict establishment. Excellent guides, well preserved buildings and a lovely boat ride around the harbour. We learnt a lot about our own history and how convicts were treated/mistreated; and how the mix of prison staff, army and civilians lived during the 1830-70s when it was closed to new convicts. If you are interested in history and want an educational day out Port Arthur is a must see.
